Max's Wild Rumpus
Since we live in California and pretty much my entire family and most of my friends live about 2,644 miles away, we decided to fly back to PA to have a first birthday party for Max! We had so much fun with family, a few friends and tons of babies everywhere. Seriously, everywhere you looked someone was holding at least one child. I had found a lot of great inspiration on Pinterest of great Where the Wild Things Are party ideas and brainstormed with my mom to create Max's Wild Rumpus! Since we were flying in a few days before, my parents were a huge help before we got there. They made Max a sailboat, a happy birthday sign, ran lots of errands, turned a monkey piñata into a Wild Thing piñata, drew a "Pin the Tail on Max" poster & more! I could not have thrown the party without them. They're awesome.
Before I left California, I practiced with a new cookie recipe because I wanted to make my own favors. It was super easy & you can find it here. I also came across an amazing way to ice cookies which saved a ton of time and was super easy. Check it out here. My mom and I made them a couple days before the party and bagged them up! We used a number 1 and a super tiny crown (which was way smaller than I thought when I ordered it), and I was really happy with how they turned out!
My sister let us throw the party at her house, which was wonderful because her house is beautiful, spacious and full of toys for all the little ones to play with. My mom also brought a mini blow up pool that she filled with ball pit balls and it was a huge hit. The kids (& parents) loved it. I decorated with some photos I had taken of Max, that you can see from this previous post. I also made a few signs on Photoshop of quotes from the book and decorated with little crowns I made out of gold pipe cleaners! One of my favorite things that I made was Max's first birthday poster with a bunch of facts about him! I love decorating and throwing parties, so I had a lot of fun creating things for this event!
We enjoyed a lot of good food, which was eaten in shifts as people took turns holding babies. (Again- so many babies, it was awesome!) I created a quiz about Max for the adults to attempt and was told it was very difficult. Whoops! The kids played "Pin the Tail on Max!" & had a lot of fun with the piñata. Afterwards, it was dessert time! Max had his own smash cake which he thoroughly enjoyed and the guests nibbled on a variety of sweets! Then, we showed Max's First Year Video which was a collection of one second clips from (almost) every day of his first year! You can watch that here. Max and his cousins had some fun in his sailboat, he opened some presents and then took a much needed nap. It was such a fun time celebrating Max! I still can't believe how quickly his first year went. It's so true what they say- they grow so fast.
